Dussehra Festival Special—8th October 2019

India - the land of culture, customs and traditions- observes a significant festival called ‘Navaratri’, concluded by ‘Dussehra’ every year. Dussehra is one of the most significant and auspicious festivals of the Hindu religion, celebrated across the country. This festival is celebrated after ‘Sharadiya Navaratri’ and it marks the 10th day after Navaratri. Dussehra is celebrated with great zeal, happiness, and enthusiasm to mark the victory of Prabhu Ramchandra on Ravana. The festival symbolizes the power of truth, good things, and honesty over evil practices or corruption and is usually celebrated in the month of September or October each year. This year it will be observed on the 8th day of October.

Significance
A very special thing about this holy and auspicious festival is that it is considered among one of the auspicious 3.5 Muhurtas of the year. That makes this day a great occasion to begin new work or plan a major purchase. Hindu people observe this day holistically and also perform various ritual customs, Yadnya-Yaga, Puja and other ceremonies like engagement or Munj on this day.
Dussehra is also termed as “Vijaya-Dashami”, and its mythological significance says that Lord Rama had performed Chandi Puja to defeat Ravana in war and the Hindu Goddess- Durga blessed and empowered Lord Rama to kill this powerful demon.
Dussehra Celebrations
Generally, people observe fasting either during the Navratri festival or on the 1st and 9th day of Navratri. On Dussehra, they break their fasts after offering “Prasad” to God. It is a common practice to have sweet preparations on this auspicious day. People also enjoy this day with major purchases such as that of vehicles, gold, electronics, etc. Many ritual practices are conducted on this day, including Puja, Pathan, Seemolanghan, etc. This sacred day is also celebrated at temples with Puja, Jagran, and fares.
On behalf of the Honourable BJP Chief of Maharashtra- Mr Chandrakant Dada Patil, we would like to wish you all a very happy and prosperous Dussehra. May this festive season bring happiness, joy, wealth to your life and eradicate poverty, sorrows from your life permanently.
Mr Chandrakant Dada Patil has been the Revenue Minister of Maharashtra, and the Guardian Minister of Pune and Kolhapur districts for some time now. He has made continual efforts to project Kolhapur district as the most important religious tourist place in the State. The Mahalaxmi temple at Kolhapur makes the district one of the Shakti-Peetha in the state and the entire country. All Balaji devotees visit Kolhapur after their Tirupati visit. Mr Patil took significant efforts on this pilgrimage development plan to provide quality facilities to the devotees along with excellent transportation facilities through all modes.
Along with this, Mr Chandrakant Patil also makes it a point to always participate in various religious events including the Palkhi festivals as well as Ganesh festival celebrations in Pune and Kolhapur. He praises the collective positive vibrations and energy emitted during these religious events.
